Student training program for the third and fourth year of the faculty

Utva Aircraft Industry is a factory for designing and production of aircraft and aviation-related products. The 80-year-long history of the factory makes us one of the oldest factories with great experience. During those 80 years, the factory has successfully conducted a lot of work when it comes to designing and production of gliders, sport, agricultural and civil aircraft, to large combat aircraft systems for domestic and foreign military needs.

These jobs have had influence on Utva Aircraft Industry developing as a factory and in the field of education in terms of practice and training of students, young engineers, pilots and mechanics. Over the years, an aviation training program has been developed, which is then divided into units that are necessary in the process of designing and manufacturing aircraft.

The training program for future aeronautical engineers includes:

Construction of aircraft, assemblies and subassemblies

3D modelling (CATIA V5)

2D drawing (Drafting)

Calculating the static and dynamic strength by

Analytical methods

Numerical methods (the finite element method NASTRAN)

Calculating the aerodynamics of new aircraft and the impact of modification on the aircraft in use by

Analytical methods

Numerical methods (the finite volume method FLUENT)

Aircraft systems design

Fuel supply system

Cabin air conditioning system

Oxygen system

Hydraulic system

Avionic system

Power and electronics system

Designing of in-flight command system

Mechanical

Hydraulic

Electrical

Production of aircraft, assemblies and subassemblies

Machining centre

Manufacture of sheet metal elements

Manufacture of fiberglass elements

Designing and manufacture of tools for aircraft production

Designing and manufacture of assembly tools

Aircraft assembly line

All the listed programs that future aeronautical engineers will use in their work on the design and construction of aircraft are made in accordance with the highest aeronautical norms, as shown by the certificates that the Utva AI factory has. In addition, the aviation regulations of EASA, FAA and BCAR are used in the process of designing and production within the training program for aviation students. That way, a student will be able to interpret and apply these regulations in further work.

Dual education

Dual education is a model of vocational school education which combines learning both at school and in a company. Depending on the educational profile chosen, a student may start the apprenticeship in the company as early as first grade, for hands-on learning. Hands-on learning provides practical and applicable knowledge to students in real work environment, in the company.

Having in mind that industry is facing a day-to-day deficit of skilled workforce, dual education is aimed to meet their needs and provide a solution to the problem of labor market shortage for a period of time.

The students are encouraged and motivated to acquire skills, both for their own benefit and the benefit of the companies. Once a student finishes his dual education, he/she can get employed at the employer, start his/her own business, or, having acquired the knowledge and competence for it, go to further studies. This way the employer reduces the costs of training of the newly employed personnel, and invests in the future of his own company.

Utva Aircraft Industry regards this learning model as a significant step towards a modern educational system, and has therefore signed a contract with Technical High School in PanÄŤevo, thereby providing practical knowledge to students of the following educational profiles:

  • Machinist – welder
  • Cutting machine operator.

Following the fluctuations on the labor market, the needs for particular skilled workers change as well. Therefore, we shall not dismiss the applications for skilled electricians, weapon mechanics/defense equipment maintenance technicians, and other skilled officers of economics and legal affairs.
